Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength!

As I have said before, when Your higher power is the Christ of the Scriptures,  then you have all the Bible’s  principles, promises and the power of Holy Spirit to help you in the trials, tribulations and joys of life. The Lord brought this part of the famous Isiah 40:31 to my attention this morning, underlining the word “shall” for me.  It is a principle. The principles of the Word of God are like the laws of cause and effect.  “Keep on knocking and the door shall be opened” (Matthew 7:7).  “He who continually goes forth weeping, Bearing seed for sowing, Shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, Bringing his sheaves with him” (Psalm 126:6). The Hebrew in this last reference is interesting, and difficult to translate.  The word translated  here as “doubtless” is the same as the word translated “shall come.” In other words a literal translation would read “shall come, shall come.” And of course things repeated emphasize what is being said. In other words it is emphasizing the certainty of the principle/promise.

The “cause” part  in the Matthew and the Psalm principles has to do with intersession. Likewise, and also related to intersession,  is the cause of the renewing of strength. It is  our waiting on the Lord.  If we are to tap into this, then we need to know the One on whom we wait.  In fact in context,  most of this chapter (Isaiah  40) is talking  about Him, about our incredible,  incomparable God, the God who creates, acts, brings princes to nothing etc., etc.  Are we tempted to doubt? Three time He  in effect asks “Do you not know these things” (verses 21, 25, 27).  In effect He is inviting us to know that the One on whom we wait has more than enough wisdom, power and the wherewithal to strengthen us.  To put it another way an essential part of this waiting is knowing,  knowing His ability,  knowing His  faithfulness etc., etc.

The fuller meaning of the word translated “wait” includes hope, expectation and looking for Him (Amp).  And hope of course (NIV), is related to faith.   After we have knocked, and kept on knocking, wept and kept on weeping in intercession, there comes a time when we need to rest and let Him do His part.  He has a timing for these things (Ecclesiastes 3). He is never early, and He is never late.  He has a purpose in the delay, and it is to strengthen us.  When this happens He can use us for the Kingdom. In fact He tells us that “The people who know their God shall be strong, and do great exploits (Daniel 11:32 KJV). We will also soar in the spirit like the eagle (Isaiah 40:31),  and we will increasingly have the joy unspeakable even in the midst of the battles that He calls us to win (1 Peter 1:7,8).

Father,  I want to thank you this morning for Your incredible involvement in our lives.  In fact  Lord You are far more interested in being part of our lives than we could ever be.  Thank You Lord for Your wisdom in the delays,  and for the strengthening during the waiting periods.  You have told us Lord that You will renew our youth like the eagle, and restore the years the locusts have eaten. And we give You thanks and praise again this morning in Jesus Name Amen
